Samantha Brett: The long road to justice for grieving families

A GRIEVING mother sits across from me in a chair, a tissue soaked with tears scrunched in her hand. She has never spoken about the death of her son publicly, up until now — when she can no longer bear the lies and stories being whipped up and repeated again and again.

She ­describes to me the gut-wrenching moment she held her son’s lifeless body in her arms, as he took his last breath, after he was suddenly and ruthlessly killed.

“He died on the footpath, with no dignity,” she says ­between sobs ..
